Anchored through the Storm
By Deanna Reda & Patrick Genova
How do we find peace, rest and positivity during a worldwide pandemic where so many are losing hope, losing jobs, losing loved ones and even losing their very lives? How can we be firmly anchored to God during a storm? By wrestling with God until our hearts, minds, and souls can firmly grasp how great He is and embrace is promises. We must wrestle until our hearts are firmly anchored to who God is.
We read God’s promises, but it can be hard to feel His promises. It can be even harder when we can see a lot of bad news all around us.
When this happens we have to be real with ourselves and with God and wrestle until the distance between how we feel and God’s promises become one. We have to be honest and authentic with God to be anchored and that can often be a messy process, but thats okay!
Remember.…….Jacob wrestled with God and though he was wounded, he rose victoriously.
Remember………Moses was afraid to answer Gods call but once he did, he was victorious.
Remember………David who was a man after God’s own heart because he honestly wrestled with God.
Remember………JESUS was overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Yet through his obedience to his Father, and because of his great love for us, he endured the worst possible physical, emotional, spiritual and mental pain there ever was and ever will be. JESUS victoriously overcame death itself.
They all did what it took to securely anchor their hearts to God through their trials and disappointments. They brought their mess to God as they wrestled with His truth.
Lets look at 10 truths we can anchor ourselves to during this time. Pick one or two that you need to do some more wrestling with.
10 truth’s to anchor our heart to
1. God created all things
Hebrews 11:3– By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.
Colossians 1:16– For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.
2. God cares specifically for you!
Luke 12:7–Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
3. God loves to hear our prayers
1 Peter 3:12–For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears attentive to their prayer.
Jeremiah 10:6–No one is like you, Lord; you are great, and your name is mighty in power.
Psalm 66:19–but God has surely listened and has heard my prayer.
4. God knows you fully and loves you still
Isaiah 49:16–See, I have engraved you in the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me.
5. God holds our hands and carries us through the most difficult of times.
Isaiah 41:13–For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.
6.God will fight for you
Exodus 14:14– The Lord will fight for you, you need only to be still.
7. God wants us to come to him for refuge.
Psalm 46:1-2-God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.
8. God is so patient with us and the messes we make for ourselves.
Psalm 103:8-The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.
9. God is so willing to forgive us for the past, present and future pain we cause him.
Daniel 9:9–The Lord our God is merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against him.
10. God came down from heaven & sacrificed his one and only son so that we could live with him in Heaven for all eternity.
John 1:14– The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only son, who came from the Father full of grace and truth.
John 3:16–For God so. Loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
I know things are hard right now but with God, Jesus, The Holy Spirit and our brothers and sisters, WE WILL GET THROUGH THIS!
JOHN 16:33 “I HAVE TOLD YOU THESE THINGS, SO THAT IN ME YOU MAY HAVE PEACE. IN THIS WORLD YOU WILL HAVE TROUBLE. BUT TAKE HEART! I HAVE OVERCOME THE WORLD.”
