“Owning Faith: Reimagining the Role of Church and Family in the Faith Journey of Teenagers”
Family and the Word of God
All scriptures can apply to family.
Reflection Question: When reading the Bible, ask yourself:
“What does this say for me and my family, and how can I apply it at home?”
We need to intentionally build faith at home.
God’s Call to Parents
Reflection Question: Who does God call to help our kids become Christians?
Answer: The parents.
Don’t make the mistake of thinking someone else will do it. God has placed that responsibility on the parents.
We chose to have kids, it can’t be someone else’s responsibility.
The church should help too, but parents are the primary spiritual leaders.
Recognizing Your Child’s Gifts
Reflection Question: What do you see as some natural gifts your child has?
They are going to feel big emotions…but hang in there!
If you get your kids talking, it’s a good thing, that’s a positive sign!
There’s no parent who can control the tide of the teenage phase and hormones.
Tip: Find something that helps your kids open up and talk.
Passing Down Faith to Your Kids
Reflection Question: Do you think it’s important to pass down faith?
Reflection Question: What are you doing intentionally in your home to help teach faith to your kids?
Keep the flame and pass it to the next generation!
“But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”
The journey to God will be unique for each child.

Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

- Be genuine and authentic
- Talk about faith with your kids
