  • Theme Scripture:Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV)
  • Story: In the Bible, we see many examples of people who experienced burnout and exhaustion. One such example is Elijah (1 Kings 19), who became so overwhelmed by his ministry that he asked God to take his life. However, God provided rest and renewal for Elijah through food, water, sleep, supernatural help and a gentle whisper. Elijah’s story reminds us that even one of the greatest prophets in the Bible felt overwhelmed! God was not angry with him, God took care of him and met his needs. Don’t let burn out hurt your soul, go visit God and wait for the gentle whisper in Christ.
  • Quotes:
    • “The goal of Sabbath is not rest for rest’s sake, but rest for the sake of restoration.”
    • “The way of Jesus is the way of slowing down, simplifying, and pursuing a life of peace.”
    • “What good is all our busyness if it leads us to the wrong place at the end of the day?”
  • Personal Reflection: What are some things that drain your energy and leave you feeling burnt out? How can you create space in your schedule for rest and renewal?
  • Practical Application (Pick one):
    • Pick a day this week to fast from social media
    • Make a “stop doing” list of things that don’t align with Gods will for your life
    • Practice Sabbath (a 24 hour period to rest in the Lord and unplug completely from the demands of the world)
  • Prayer Prompt: Dear God, I feel burnt out and overwhelmed. Help me to come to You for rest and renewal. Show me how to care for myself and to prioritize resting in you. Give us the wisdom to know when to say “no” and when to ask for help. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Psalm 23

A psalm of David.

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
    He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
    he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
    for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk
    through the darkest valley,[a]
I will fear no evil,
    for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
    in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
    my cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me
    all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
    forever.

Psalm 46:10

10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;

    I will be exalted among the nations,
    I will be exalted in the earth.”

Isaiah 40:31

31 but those who hope in the Lord
    will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
    they will run and not grow weary,
    they will walk and not be faint.
