On Sunday, Feb. 26th, McKayla Owen made Jesus Lord of her life and was humbly baptized by her parents and surrounded by so many of her new brothers and sisters. On Sunday, December 18th Southern CT celebrated the birth of Christ with song, a skit and the word of God. This year's theme "Believe" brought the church together in worship, including our children ministry. Our service also incorporated a surprise play of a modern day portrayal of the birth of our savior, Jesus Christ. As we head into 2017, here's look back at some of Southern CT's events, baptisms, restorations and additions to our ministry within the year 2016.
On November 13 the Southern Connecticut Singles Ministry took the lead for a Singles-Led Service. Leading us on stage for worship, Peter Chao, Carine Narcisse, Ariel Bernard, Devon Blackwell and Shelia Galilei sang songs of praise. On the guitar, Pouchon Altine led a worship solo of the song “10,000 Reasons”. Also joining in on the worship, campus students George Murray and Riley Knebes on the trumpet. On Saturday, October 29, more than 40 volunteers from the Southern CT Church of Christ's Faith in Action team and Trader Joe's joined together to help clean up the Curiale School in Bridgeport. Our church has been at the elementary school several times before to help clean, organize and refurbish the inside and outside of the building and as an official H.O.P.E. chapter we couldn't have been more motivated to get back out there and serve. With whoops, cheers and some tears members of the Southern Connecticut Church of Christ celebrated as campus ministers Will and Kristen Lambert were appointed evangelist and women’s ministry leader to the church in Madrid, Spain. Doug and Jennifer Lambert, Will’s parents and leaders of the church in Cincinnati, Ohio, flew in for the occasion. On September 4th, Brice Wilson made Jesus Lord of his life and was baptized into Christ. Brice, still only 15 years old, grew up in the church with his parents Dennis and Marquetta Wilson. His parents shared how he was able to transition from the children's ministry to the preteen ministry and now the teen ministry with the help of spiritual brothers and sisters in the church. Southern Connecticut welcomed another sister to our ministry! Christy Pope was baptized in Stratford on Sunday, May 29 after church. She is a friend of PJ Mccreanor, who both work with the homeless. Christy has been studying the Bible with the entire Stratford family group since last fall and has come a long way. Aside from being the head of Compassion Ministry for the Bridgeport Rescue Mission, Christy is also a scholar, and teacher for SATs and college courses, a mother and grandmother.
