Hey Men, we were able to secure the church building for Thursday Feb. 18 so we are ON for midweek!  Service will be the normal time of 7:30 PM

Due to the inclement weather and the forecast for temperatures well below freezing tonight, we will NOT be having the mens midweek service tonight, Tuesday the 16th. We are trying to reschedule for Thursday evening, 7:30pm. I will let you know as soon as I hear back from the Calvin United church. The womens service scheduled for Wednesday is still on.

I’m sure you have been following the news reports concerning the earthquake in Haiti. The situation there is dire and much help is needed. The global response has been encouraging with money, volunteers and aid coming in from around the world. Logistics seems to be the biggest obstacle right now with the airport in Port-Au- Prince damaged and the shipping ports out of service. As of right now 11 disciples in the church there have died and many are still missing. (Please go to www.disciplestoday for the latest updates) Many of the church members have lost everything and are huddled together on the church property. Several members of the church here have family in Haiti. Most I have spoken with have not been able to contact them yet. We are praying everyday that encouraging words come soon.

We will be having a special Sunday service next week January 24th dedicated to the situation in Haiti. At that time we will also be taking up a special free will offering for HOPE worldwide as they begin their relief efforts in the country. I hope by the 24th we will have more information about our member’s families and the state of our brothers and sisters in the church there.    Please keep praying for God’s hand to move swiftly in relieving the suffering in that country.

You may have heard by now that there was a devastating  earthquake in Haiti Tuesday.  We have members of the church here from Haiti and have family there.  Does anyone know the status of those families? Please let me know of family needs in Haiti by phone at 203-521-2539 or email at js@sctcoc.org PLEASE keep Haiti in your prayers and the families we have there. I checked Disciples Today and there is no information about the status of the church there at this time. I’ll keep you updated. Check disciplestoday.com for current information.

The Leadership Team is very excited to announce the unveiling of our new Fall / Winter calendar. There have been quite a few changes to our meeting format so PLEASE take some time to become familiar with them.  Here are some of the changes:

1. We will no longer be having Sunday adults classes at 1:30pm. Our Sunday worship service will begin at 1:30pm. Except for the infants and babies, the children will be in the service until the break after communion at which time they will be dismissed to classes.

2. We will be having our adult classes at our midweek services. The men will meet every other Tuesday eve. at 7:30pm and the women will meet every other Wednesday eve. at 7:30pm. PLEASE CHECK THE WEBSITE CALENDAR FOR EXACT DATES!  It is VERY important that you are there when we meet. This is the only way we will continue to build unity and family within the church. Please work out you schedule to be there.

3. Family groups will meet on the off weeks from the midweek services. Please talk to your family group leader for specifics relating to your group.

4. The singles will have a singles devotional once per month. Dates are on the calendar so please take note!

5. We will reserve Friday nights for all-church devotionals as needed. We will make every effort to give ample notice of these meetings.

Additional special events for all ministries will be added as they are developed.

  Our 1st series is entitled “Spiritual Training” with the thrust being the continual transformation into the likeness of Christ. We will cover many topics on being our best for God and becoming more like Christ in every way. Please support the teachers working on these classes by your involvement with them.

As always, there are bound to be some changes as the unexpected comes up! We will keep the website calendar updated as to those changes. Please check often. Additional hard copies of the calendar will be available Sunday.

We have an amazing volunteer opportunity for disciples in your congregations! Bob and Pat Gempel are leading a “Compassion Tour” to Cambodia (November ‘09) in celebration of the Sihanouk Hospital’s One Million Patients Consultations in Cambodia. Volunteers will have the chance to visit & serve in the Sihanouk hospital and some of the local community programs, sitesee, encourage the church in Phnom Penh, and experience the culture, food and people of Cambodia. Do you know of a disciple from your church who would jump on this opportunity to see the hospital first hand?

Hey Men,    

                 We are ready to begin our "Men’s Leadership Training" series! This will be a great time for some practical hands on training in the ministry! This series is open to any of the men in the church desiring to be more involved with leadership in the church. Topics to be covered include Bible study, teaching and speaking, conflict resolution, spiritual relationships, healthy discipling, evangelism, organization, and a number of other things! The series begins tomorrow, May 2nd. Please check your calendar for further dates. We will begin at 7:30 AM SHARP. If you are going to attend, PLEASE respect the time of others and be on time! We will go until 9:00 AM.  The location for this first session is the Schachinger home, 226 Broadway Rd. Trumbull.
