A Heart for Missions

As the Lord was preparing to ascend  into Heaven, he gave his disciples a final charge. Mark records: “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. “  (Mk 16:15)  Matthew records a similar charge with the addition of making disciples of all nations, baptizing them and teaching them to obey! (Mt.28:19) One of the things that excites me most about our brotherhood is that we have taken this to heart. Today we can travel around the world and find disciples just about everywhere we go. The world is shrinking while God is growing! This charge from Jesus to take the message globally does not come without it’s challenges however. We  are not only to baptize worldwide but to teach and train worldwide. That’s not easy! To build the church the Lord died for will take faith, hard work, deep convictions, resources,  and sacrifice…it will take a heart for missions.

Back in December we were fortunate enough to have Jimmy Allen from Hartford come down and deliver a great presentation about the International Mission Society (IMS) and the work they are doing in Europe through the New England family of churches. I’m excited that as a church we will be joining in the support for IMS this year through a special missions contribution to be taken up in 2 parts. The 1st in June and the 2nd in the fall. (This gives you the opportunity to give when you are most able to.)  There will be much more specific direction and inspiration going forth from here as to how we can do this, but the thing I ask of you right now is to pray for God to give you the faith and conviction to participate with all your heart, to put missions on your heart.

The world is being won for Christ and praise God, he’s given us an opportunity to be a part of it!

Jeff

All Church Devo – Topic: Worship

The Glory of GodWell, we had the Devo last night, and to say that it was amazing is an understatement!  Having been the one to put it together, I struggled to not be a hypocrite…  The vision for the devotional was to teach a little about and encouage complete God-focused worship.  So, throughout the preparation and the organization I had to continually pray to remember that I am powerless and as my main message stated: “It’s All About God!” – and my part is the least of it.

God certainly proved it!   The reading of the Psalms, the prayers, and music were incredibly moving as we got to share a unified heart for God last night.

I think we also learned that we can step out a bit more in the nature of our worship.  The “Amen” song blew me away.  In my finite knowledge and faith, I was unsure how it would work.  (For those who were not there, I played some repeating chords on my guitar and we would sing an “Amen” refrain all together, and then I would pick the chords and anyone in the congregation could do as they choose: sing a Psalm, sing their own prayer, read a psalm, pray, dance, whatever.  Then we would all come back together singing Amen!)  I was absolutely blown away at the beauty of this free-form worship.  It was hard to play the guitar and try to wipe my nose at the same time as the tears flowed from the outpuring of hearts in the prayers and wonderful singing of Psalms and prayers!

I am so encouraged to have been part of a worship in a church that truly loves God.

If you were there, and were likewise encourgaged, please leave a comment.

Here is the link to a .pdf document of the notes from the message at the devo:

New Fall Schedule and Calendar!

Calendar_ClipartThe Leadership Team is very excited to announce the unveiling of our new Fall / Winter calendar. There have been quite a few changes to our meeting format so PLEASE take some time to become familiar with them.  Here are some of the changes:

1. We will no longer be having Sunday adults classes at 1:30pm. Our Sunday worship service will begin at 1:30pm. Except for the infants and babies, the children will be in the service until the break after communion at which time they will be dismissed to classes.

2. We will be having our adult classes at our midweek services. The men will meet every other Tuesday eve. at 7:30pm and the women will meet every other Wednesday eve. at 7:30pm. PLEASE CHECK THE WEBSITE CALENDAR FOR EXACT DATES!  It is VERY important that you are there when we meet. This is the only way we will continue to build unity and family within the church. Please work out you schedule to be there.

3. Family groups will meet on the off weeks from the midweek services. Please talk to your family group leader for specifics relating to your group.

4. The singles will have a singles devotional once per month. Dates are on the calendar so please take note!

5. We will reserve Friday nights for all-church devotionals as needed. We will make every effort to give ample notice of these meetings.

Additional special events for all ministries will be added as they are developed.

Our 1st series is entitled “Spiritual Training” with the thrust being the continual transformation into the likeness of Christ. We will cover many topics on being our best for God and becoming more like Christ in every way. Please support the teachers working on these classes by your involvement with them.

As always, there are bound to be some changes as the unexpected comes up! We will keep the website calendar updated as to those changes. Please check often. Additional hard copies of the calendar will be available Sunday.

thanks,

Leadership Team
